List of products by brand CHATEAU LYNSOLENCE

Situated at Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens in the Gironde, Château Lynsolence covers just 2.5 hectares within the Saint-Émilion appellation, planted entirely to Merlot on sandy-gravelly soils over a subsoil of iron-rich crasses de fer. The property has been in the hands of the Barraud family since 1971, and took a defining turn in 1998 when Sandra Barraud created the Lynsolence cuvée — now regarded as one of the most sought-after garage wines in Saint-Émilion. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its yields — 19 to 25 hl/ha — and for the precision with which Sandra Barraud coaxes extraordinary concentration from a pocket-sized terroir. A discreet, dense, and finely chiselled Saint-Émilion we are proud to list.

Château Lynsolence represents some of the most intimate winemaking Saint-Émilion has to offer: a pure Merlot red from barely 2.5 hectares, crafted with a discipline over yields that commands genuine respect. We have listed it at Halles Quercamps across several vintages, and it has never disappointed.

A family property with deep roots

The estate's origins stretch back to the nineteenth century, when the property was first established in the commune of Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens, on the southern edge of the Saint-Émilion appellation, close to the market town of Libourne. The Barraud family took ownership in 1971 under Denis Barraud, whose Vignobles Denis Barraud became the guiding force behind the château's modern identity. It was his daughter, Sandra Barraud, who gave the property its current renown: in 1998, she created the Lynsolence cuvée, a wine conceived from the outset in the spirit of the so-called vins de garage — micro-production wines that emerged in Saint-Émilion during the 1990s, defined by extremely low yields, meticulous selection, and an uncompromising focus on concentration and precision. Denis Barraud passed away on 3 February 2023, and Sandra continues to lead the château with the same exacting standards he instilled.

Terroir: sandy gravels over iron-rich subsoil

The 2.5 hectares of vines sit on sablo-graveleux soils — sandy and gravelly in texture — underlain by a subsoil of crasses de fer, the iron-rich hardpan that is a distinctive feature of this part of the Gironde. This combination drains freely, encourages the vine to root deeply, and imparts a mineral tension to the wines that balances their natural richness. The encépagement is uncompromising: 100% Merlot, the grape variety that has always defined the finest reds of Saint-Émilion. With yields deliberately held between 19 and 25 hl/ha — well below the appellation norm — each vine is asked to give very little fruit, concentrating flavour into every berry. The result is a wine of considerable density, but one that retains the precision and definition that Sandra Barraud has made her hallmark.

Winemaking philosophy

Château Lynsolence operates on a scale that allows for genuinely hands-on viticulture and vinification. The garage wine philosophy that inspired the Lynsolence cuvée in 1998 remains the guiding principle today: small volumes, rigorous sorting, careful élevage, and an unwillingness to compromise on quality for the sake of quantity. The wines are produced in the Saint-Émilion AOC and are exclusively red.

The wines of Château Lynsolence

  • Château Lynsolence — Saint-Émilion (Rouge): the estate's flagship red, 100% Merlot, from 2.5 hectares of sandy-gravelly soils over crasses de fer. Yields of 19–25 hl/ha deliver a wine of deep colour, concentrated dark fruit, and a structured, mineral finish. A reference garage wine from the southern sector of the appellation.

Why we have selected Château Lynsolence

At Halles Quercamps, we are drawn to producers who make a clear choice: to work small, to work precisely, and to let the terroir speak without amplification. Château Lynsolence does exactly that. The yields — 19 to 25 hl/ha — are not a marketing figure; they are the result of a deliberate decision, vintage after vintage, to prioritise quality over volume. Sandra Barraud's commitment to pure Merlot on this particular pocket of Saint-Émilion soil produces a wine that is at once generous and disciplined, rich in dark fruit yet defined by a mineral backbone that gives it genuine ageing potential.

We recommend this château to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts who appreciate the garage wine movement not as a fashion, but as a philosophy — and who are looking for a Saint-Émilion that rewards patience in the cellar. At the table, it pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, duck confit, or a well-aged hard cheese. It is equally well suited to laying down for a special occasion.
