A cooperative born from 126 growers in 1934
The story begins in 1934, in the canton of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, in the heart of the Gironde. That year, 126 local vignerons pooled their resources and founded what would become one of the Entre-deux-Mers' most enduring cooperative structures. The founding spirit was one of solidarity and shared ambition — to produce wines that honestly reflected their corner of Bordeaux, without the resources of the great classified châteaux but with no less commitment to quality.
For nearly eight decades, the cooperative built its reputation quietly and steadily, supplying wines that spoke of their terroir rather than their marketing budget. Then, in 2012, a significant step forward: a merger with the cave de Blasimon, bringing together two complementary cooperatives and strengthening the collective's position across the Entre-deux-Mers plateau. Today, the structure operates under the name Cave de Sauveterre Blasimon Espiet, and Château Haut Vallon remains its flagship label.
Bordeaux rouge: a classic assemblage from the Entre-deux-Mers
The wines produced under the Château Haut Vallon label are red Bordeaux, built on the region's four principal varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. This is a classic Bordeaux assemblage, with Merlot providing the fruit and roundness that characterise the right bank tradition, while the Cabernets bring structure, length, and the capacity to age. Malbec, historically present in the Gironde long before it found fame in Cahors and Argentina, adds a note of depth and colour to the blend.
