Since the Robert family took over in 1990, this discreet but deeply rooted house has steadily established itself as one of Provence's most distinctive producers.

A century-old house rooted in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

The story begins in 1898, when the house was established under the name Distillerie de Lure, drawing on the extraordinary botanical wealth of the Haute-Provence plateau — lavender, thyme, savory, and dozens of wild aromatic plants that flourish in this high, sun-drenched landscape above the Luberon. For nearly a century, the distillery quietly built its expertise in the extraction and blending of plant essences, a craft that would later define its most celebrated product.

The Robert family and the revival of Henri Bardouin

In 1990, Alain Robert acquired the house, renamed it Distilleries et Domaines de Provence, and set about creating a pastis that would stand apart from the industrial mainstream. The result was Pastis Henri Bardouin, a complex, botanically rich spirit produced from over sixty plants and spices — a world away from the simplified formulas of its commercial rivals. Named after a former mayor of Forcalquier, Henri Bardouin rapidly became a reference for those who take their aperitif seriously. Today, Alain's son Antoine Robert leads the house, maintaining the same exacting standards and the same commitment to the aromatic terroir of Haute-Provence that has defined the estate since its revival.

Viticulture and grape varieties

Alongside its distilling activity, the estate cultivates its own vineyards in Provence, working with grape varieties well suited to the warm, dry conditions of the region: Ugni Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, and Clairette. These varieties contribute to the estate's wine range and, in some cases, to its spirits, reinforcing the coherence between the viticultural and distilling sides of the house. Forcalquier itself sits at altitude, benefiting from the cooling influence of the Lure mountain, which tempers the heat of the Provençal summer and lends freshness and aromatic precision to the estate's productions.
