A château rooted in family history

The story of Clos Floridene begins with Denis and Florence Dubourdieu, who acquired their first 2-hectare parcel in 1982. The name itself tells that story: a contraction of Florence and Denis, it was always as much a personal project as a viticultural one. Denis Dubourdieu was no ordinary vigneron. A professor at the Faculty of Oenology in Bordeaux and a consultant of international renown, he devoted much of his career to understanding and elevating the aromatic potential of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc — work that earned him the sobriquet the 'pope of white wines' and reshaped the way Graves blancs were perceived worldwide.

In 1991, the château expanded significantly with the purchase of Château Montalivet, consolidating the estate's presence across two distinct communes and two complementary soil types. When Denis passed away in 2016, his sons Fabrice and Jean-Jacques Dubourdieu assumed responsibility for the domaine, carrying forward a family vision built on intellectual rigour and a deep respect for terroir.

Terroir: limestone, gravel, and two communes

The 41 hectares of Clos Floridene are divided between two contrasting landscapes, each suited to a different style of wine. The white vineyard sits on the clay-limestone plateau of Pujols-sur-Ciron, a cool, well-drained terroir that brings freshness and mineral tension to the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The red vineyard, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a touch of Muscadelle, draws on the gravelly terraces of Illats, where the free-draining soils encourage deep root development and produce reds of structure and finesse. Together, these two terroirs give Clos Floridene its dual identity: a château equally at home producing age-worthy whites and well-proportioned reds within the Graves AOC.
