On the eye
Deep, intense garnet with violet glints—a promising depth of colour.
On the nose
Rich and complex bouquet: dark berries, tobacco, liquorice and a whisper of dried herbs. The nose speaks of careful oak handling and ripe fruit.
In the mouth
Ample and rounded on the attack, with silky tannins that carry through to a long, clean finish. Good weight without heaviness; the structure is elegant rather than imposing.
This is a wine I return to regularly. The 2008 Tour des Gendres Les Gendres shows what organic farming can achieve at serious quality level—no compromise, no marketing. CHATEAU TOUR DES GENDRES
Château Tour des Gendres is a wine estate in the Bergerac appellation (South-West France). Run by the de Conti family (Luc de Conti). Around 55 hectares farmed organically. Grapes: Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle (whites), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec (reds). Pioneer of organic viticulture in the Bergerac region. One of the flagship South-West estates.
