Breeding
Approximately 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new wood
On the eye
Brilliant garnet with subtle orange rim; clear and luminous in the glass.
On the nose
Red fruit character dominates—ripe cherry and plum with a whisper of cassis. Secondary notes of graphite and dried herbs emerge as the wine opens. No heaviness; the bouquet is composed and inviting.
In the mouth
The palate is balanced and well-structured. Red fruit flavours persist through the mid-palate with fine-grained tannins providing shape without dominating. The finish is clean and moderately persistent—a wine that respects its terroir rather than imposing itself.
I have long admired the consistency of Domaine La Roche. This is a classic Pessac-Léognan—neither over-extracted nor under-ripe. It pairs beautifully with an entrecôte and seasonal vegetables, but equally at home with roasted lamb or duck. Drink now through 2032. —Nicolas François
