The refined second wine of Château Phélan Ségur

  • Produced from vines with an average age of 35 years, Franck Phélan benefits from mature plantings that deliver concentration and complexity whilst maintaining the elegance characteristic of the appellation.
  • A wine of ripe, generous fruit balanced by a refined structure. The palate shows the hallmarks of serious Saint-Estèphe winemaking: power held in check by freshness and precision.
  • Franck Phélan rewards patience in the cellar—lay it down for three to five years—yet it matures earlier than its grand frère, Château Phélan Ségur itself, making it an excellent choice for those seeking complexity without excessive ageing.

Breeding

On the eye
Deep, lustrous garnet with good intensity of colour.
On the nose
Expressive bouquet of dark berries and plum, with subtle spice notes and a hint of graphite. The nose speaks clearly of mature Cabernet Sauvignon on fine terroir.
In the mouth
Well-balanced and harmonious. The palate shows ripe black fruit, a supple mid-palate, and a long, clean finish. Structure and freshness are in good accord—neither dominates, which is precisely what one seeks in a wine of this calibre.
M. Francois
I have always admired Franck Phélan for its ability to deliver the substance of the château without demanding decades of cellaring. It is a wine of genuine character. I find it particularly well-suited to roasted game birds—partridge with grapes, for instance—where its balance of richness and acidity proves most rewarding.

CHATEAU PHELAN SEGUR

Set on the east-facing slopes of Saint-Estèphe overlooking the Gironde estuary, Château Phélan Ségur covers 70 hectares of clay-gravel soils and rounded pebbles wrapped in sandy clay, at the heart of the Bordeaux appellation. Founded in 1805 by Irishman Bernard Phelan and now steered by Belgian industrialist Philippe Van de Vyvere since 2018, this château has held Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel status since 2003, producing structured reds built around Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its vintages, the precision of its terroir, and the integrity of a classic, well-constructed Bordeaux style. A reliable reference for lovers of Saint-Estèphe.
