Terroir and tradition in a single glass

  • This old-vine Chiroubles expresses the distinctive character of its terroir with precision and depth. Far removed from light, quaffable Beaujolais, it rewards careful attention and reveals layers of complexity with each sip.
  • Aromas of dark cherry and peony mingle with mineral undertones and a whisper of balsam. The palate is generous yet balanced, with silky tannins and a refreshing finish that lingers with notes of wild berries.
  • Centenary vines on this parcel contribute remarkable richness and structure. This is a wine for those seeking authenticity and character—one that ages gracefully and merits the respect usually reserved for finer Burgundies.

Laurent Gauthier's Châtenay cuvée is precision-crafted Beaujolais that transcends the category. This is structured, profound wine deserving treatment as a serious red—capable of ageing with grace. Pair with lamb tagine, beef gardiane, or game such as hare. Remarkable value for a wine of such character and longevity.

DOMAINE LAURENT GAUTHIER

Rooted on the Côte du Py at Villié-Morgon, Domaine Laurent Gauthier stands at the heart of the Morgon appellation, where blue granite, schist and volcanic soils give Gamay a depth rarely found elsewhere in Beaujolais. Founded in 1834 and passed down through the generations, the estate was taken on by Laurent in 1991; his sons Jason and Elie now work alongside him — a continuity of family stewardship that speaks for itself. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the precision of its terroir expression, the coherence of its range across red, white and rosé, and a character firmly removed from négociant Beaujolais. For anyone seeking the true face of Morgon, these are bottles worth knowing.
