Authentic Beaujolais from the slopes of Morgon

  • Jean-Marc Burgaud's reputation rests on rigorous viticulture and meticulous winemaking. This Morgon expresses the character of its terroir with integrity and restraint—a wine for those who value authenticity over fashion.
  • The Cote du Py vineyard, with its granitic soils and steep aspect, has shaped Burgaud's winemaking philosophy across four decades. Each vintage reflects generations of accumulated knowledge and respect for the land.
  • This is a wine of substance and balance. Neither heavy nor insubstantial, it rewards the table with food-friendly structure and the kind of quiet confidence that comes from knowing one's craft.

Product features : Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres

Breeding
Twelve months' élevage in used oak barrels (no new wood to avoid masking the terroir).
On the eye
Deep purple robe, notably dark for a Gamay, suggesting concentration and maturity potential.
On the nose
Black cherry (Burlat variety), blackberry and bilberry dominate. The aromatics are restrained rather than showy, with mineral undertones characteristic of granitic terroir.
In the mouth
Long, structured palate driven by black fruit and a noble bitterness reminiscent of cherry stone. The tannins are fine-grained and integrated, providing framework without dominance.
M. Francois
Pairs naturally with charcuterie—particularly Lyon's rosette and other artisanal cured meats. Also excellent with roasted game birds, soft cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. Drink now through 2028.

DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BURGAUD

Based in Villié-Morgon, Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud farms 19 hectares across the celebrated slopes of the Côte du Py, at the heart of the Morgon appellation. Founded in 1989, the estate gained its true character in 1992 when Jean-Marc — trained in Burgundy and steeped in a vigneron family — took over his father-in-law's vines on these iron- and manganese-rich schists. That Burgundian formation shows: he reads his parcels with the rigour of a climat, coaxing both power and finesse from Gamay Noir on some of Beaujolais's most distinctive terroir. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the precision of its vineyard work, the typicity of its Morgon, and a consistency of style that places it firmly among the serious addresses of the appellation. A benchmark for the cellar.
