The character of eighty-year-old vines

  • A wine of genuine character, built on the foundation of venerable vines averaging eighty years in age. This Cuvée des Vieux Ceps expresses the depth and complexity that only mature vineyard stock can deliver.
  • An assured companion to robust dishes—cassoulet, confit duck, game, and Pyrenean sheep's cheese all find their match in this wine's structured frame and savoury grip.
  • Approachable now, yet sufficiently well-made to reward patience. Lay a bottle aside in your cellar and discover how the tannins settle and the flavours deepen over time.

Breeding
12 months in oak barrels, partly new wood.
On the eye
Deep, dark garnet. A wine of considerable substance and concentration.
On the nose
Red and dark fruits meld with earthy undertones, whilst subtle notes of vanilla and toast add refinement and warmth to the bouquet.
In the mouth
Powerful and fleshy on the palate, with a well-defined structure. Firm tannins and a savoury oak influence persist into a lingering finish.
M. Francois
The Cuvée des Vieux Ceps is ideally suited to the hearty fare of south-western France: cassoulet, duck confit, magret, and game. It pairs beautifully with Pyrenean sheep's cheese and Auvergne blue. A wine that honours both the table and the cellar.

CHÂTEAU BARRÉJAT

Based in Maumusson-Laguian in the Gers, Château Barréjat farms 40 hectares of Madiran across sandy silts laced with dark gravel, with yields capped at 55 hl/ha. The estate has bottled its own wines since 1967, passing through four generations of the same family; Denis Capmartin took the helm in 1992 and made a decisive investment in 2008 with the construction of an underground cellar, ensuring precise temperature control and consistency throughout élevage. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the discipline of its yields, the typicity of its Tannat, and a range that spans red, white, rosé and sparkling. A reliable address for anyone seeking Madiran in its fullest expression.
