Pure expression of Tannat character

  • A red wine of considerable character and structure. The Cuvée de l'Extrême showcases the distinctive power of Tannat, the principal grape of Madiran, with depth and presence.
  • An assured companion to robust dishes: cassoulet, duck confit, game, and the aged cheeses of the Pyrenees. Its tannin framework demands and rewards hearty fare.
  • Approachable upon release, yet built for the cellar. This wine rewards patience, developing further complexity over several years of careful storage.

Product features : Château Barréjat Madiran Cuvée de l'Extrême 2021

Breeding
Aged in cement vat, stainless steel, fibreglass and old oak foudres.
On the eye
Very dark garnet robe with dense colour saturation
On the nose
Pronounced aromas of roasted vanilla and buttered oak. Secondary notes of spice and toasted hazelnut emerge with aeration, characteristic of careful élevage.
In the mouth
Powerful and well-structured on the palate. Firm tannins provide the backbone, with roasted and torrefied notes building through the finish. Substantial but balanced.
M. Francois
The Cuvée Extrême represents Château Barréjat's commitment to traditional Madiran. Pair with cassoulet, duck confit, magret, game birds, Pyrenean sheep's cheese, or Auvergne blue. A wine that honours both the terroir and the table.

CHÂTEAU BARRÉJAT

Based in Maumusson-Laguian in the Gers, Château Barréjat farms 40 hectares of Madiran across sandy silts laced with dark gravel, with yields capped at 55 hl/ha. The estate has bottled its own wines since 1967, passing through four generations of the same family; Denis Capmartin took the helm in 1992 and made a decisive investment in 2008 with the construction of an underground cellar, ensuring precise temperature control and consistency throughout élevage. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the discipline of its yields, the typicity of its Tannat, and a range that spans red, white, rosé and sparkling. A reliable address for anyone seeking Madiran in its fullest expression.
