Breeding
Ageing in cement vat, stainless steel, fibreglass and old oak foudres combined with Tannat and Cabernet make this an approachable Madiran at a reasonable price.
On the eye
Garnet robe with vermillion reflections, suggesting maturity and depth.
On the nose
A refined bouquet expressing preserved dark fruits—blackberry and blackcurrant—with secondary notes of forest floor and humus. The aromatics develop gradually, revealing the wine's layered character.
In the mouth
The palate is harmonious and well-structured, with substantial tannins softened by ripe fruit and underlying richness. Good aromatic persistence on the finish, with a satisfying grip that suggests food compatibility.
Château Barréjat is ideally suited to cassoulet, duck confit and magret, game birds and venison, and the robust cheeses of the Pyrenees. Equally at home with Auvergne blue cheese. A wine that demands proper food pairing and rewards the effort.
