A Madiran of genuine character and substance

  • Madiran is one of France's most historic wine regions, and Château Barréjat represents the traditional approach to this demanding terroir. Built on the Tannat grape, this wine carries the ancestral methods and philosophy of south-west France winemaking.
  • This is a wine of real personality—structured, aromatic and unapologetically robust. It demands respect and rewards those who appreciate wines with backbone and presence rather than immediate charm.
  • Château Barréjat offers genuine pleasure without pretension. The balance between fruit expression, tannin presence and overall harmony represents honest value for the serious wine drinker.

Breeding
Ageing in cement vat, stainless steel, fibreglass and old oak foudres combined with Tannat and Cabernet make this an approachable Madiran at a reasonable price.
On the eye
Garnet robe with vermillion reflections, suggesting maturity and depth.
On the nose
A refined bouquet expressing preserved dark fruits—blackberry and blackcurrant—with secondary notes of forest floor and humus. The aromatics develop gradually, revealing the wine's layered character.
In the mouth
The palate is harmonious and well-structured, with substantial tannins softened by ripe fruit and underlying richness. Good aromatic persistence on the finish, with a satisfying grip that suggests food compatibility.
M. Francois
Château Barréjat is ideally suited to cassoulet, duck confit and magret, game birds and venison, and the robust cheeses of the Pyrenees. Equally at home with Auvergne blue cheese. A wine that demands proper food pairing and rewards the effort.

CHÂTEAU BARRÉJAT

Based in Maumusson-Laguian in the Gers, Château Barréjat farms 40 hectares of Madiran across sandy silts laced with dark gravel, with yields capped at 55 hl/ha. The estate has bottled its own wines since 1967, passing through four generations of the same family; Denis Capmartin took the helm in 1992 and made a decisive investment in 2008 with the construction of an underground cellar, ensuring precise temperature control and consistency throughout élevage. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the discipline of its yields, the typicity of its Tannat, and a range that spans red, white, rosé and sparkling. A reliable address for anyone seeking Madiran in its fullest expression.
