Breeding
Twelve months' élevage in Burgundian oak barrels (new to three years old). Extended twelve months' ageing in bottle.
On the eye
Deep purple-garnet robe with brilliant intensity and fine clarity.
On the nose
Intense bouquet of dark berries and blackcurrant, with violet florals, white pepper, and a whisper of leather. The aromatics are both perfumed and structured.
In the mouth
Structured, velvety palate with dark fruit, white pepper, and liquorice notes. Excellent length and balance. The tannins are refined and integrated, supporting rather than dominating.
Clos des Grives is the benchmark of its appellation. Combier has achieved something rare: a wine that marries the power of Rhône Syrah with Burgundian elegance.
