In the mouth
Smooth and generous on the palate. Flavours of crushed black plum, liquorice, toasted cocoa bean and black cherry preserve unfold with good structure. The finish is clean and persistent, with the mineral character providing welcome tension.
On the nose
A vibrant bouquet marked by mineral notes—flint and pencil lead from the quartz-rich soil—interwoven with mauve Syrah florals and preserved black cherry. The aromatics are both precise and inviting.
On the eye
Bright garnet-red with carmine highlights, suggesting the wine's vibrancy and freshness
Breeding
In demi-muids and barriques for 14 months
M. Francois
A wine of genuine versatility. Its weight and fruit concentration suit richer preparations—duck with quince, veal with morel sauce—whilst its mineral spine and freshness prevent it from becoming heavy. The organic certification adds a layer of integrity to what is already a well-made, characterful Côtes du Rhône.

Le Clos du Caillou is a wine estate in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation (Southern Rhône). Run by Sylvie Vacheron and Bruno Gaspard. Around 53 hectares. Grapes: Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault (reds), Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc (whites). Organically farmed. Cuvées: Les Quartz, Les Safres, Reserve. Wines of great depth and complexity.
