Catalan terroir expressed through sedimentary limestone and primary schist

  • The domaine occupies 85 hectares at 150–200 metres altitude near Perpignan, commanding views towards the Mediterranean some twenty kilometres distant. This maritime influence shapes the character of wines across the property's 45 hectares of vineyard, some vines exceeding 120 years in age.
  • The geology beneath these vines—sedimentary limestone to the north, primary schist to the south—often intermingles in vertical strata. This layered composition encourages deep rooting and contributes distinctive mineral expression to the finished wine.
  • Les Halles de Quercamps sources directly from the domaine, allowing us to offer this wine at the fairest terms available to British customers.

Product features : Domaine Gauby - les Calcinaires 2023 — IGP Côtes Catalanes

In the mouth
Savoury and rounded on the palate. Pineapple and citrus flavours develop, touched by mint and honeyed notes. Mineral freshness carries through to a lengthy finish, where a gentle bitter edge provides definition and balance.
On the nose
Delicate and refined. Stone fruits—peach and apricot—mingle with exotic notes of pineapple and lychee. Citrus aromatics of orange and cedrat emerge, with a subtle menthol undertone adding complexity.
On the eye
Pale golden yellow with bright, luminous clarity
Breeding
7 months in stainless steel vats and old wooden foudres
M. Francois
This wine possesses the freshness and aromatic generosity to complement Mediterranean cuisine with ease. Consider it alongside grilled fish, herb-dressed vegetables, or lighter poultry dishes. The mineral spine and subtle menthol notes make it equally rewarding as an aperitif wine, particularly on warmer evenings.
