A wine of distinctive character and terroir

  • Certified organic since 2012, this Cahors reflects the estate's commitment to sustainable viticulture. The vineyard's careful stewardship allows the Malbec to express its natural character without intervention.
  • A natural companion to game and rich meat dishes, particularly those with aromatic spicing. The wine's structure and tannin balance make it equally suited to duck confit or venison preparations.
  • We recommend opening this wine 20–30 minutes before service to allow it to breathe fully. This brief aeration reveals the wine's floral and spiced dimensions, enhancing its overall elegance.

Deep violet-tinged garnet, with good colour intensity
On the nose
Cassis and dark plum fruit, layered with white pepper and violet. The bouquet develops subtle earthy undertones with aeration.
In the mouth
Well-balanced and graceful on the palate, with fine-grained tannins and good acidity. The mid-palate shows ripe fruit and spice, finishing with a clean, mineral edge.

This Cahors demonstrates the elegance possible from organically farmed Malbec. It pairs beautifully with spiced meat dishes—particularly game—where its structure and aromatic profile complement rich, savoury flavours. The wine's restraint and balance make it a thoughtful choice for the discerning table.

CHATEAU DU CEDRE

Situated at Vire-sur-Lot in the Lot valley, Château du Cèdre farms 27 hectares of certified organic vines across the calcareous scree slopes and ancient siliceous terraces of the Cahors appellation. Founded in 1973 by the Verhaeghe family, originally from Flanders, the estate reached a turning point in 1995 when a devastating hailstorm prompted Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe to rethink their viticulture entirely — a journey that culminated in full organic certification in 2012. Malbec here delivers the depth and density that define the finest Cahors. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the seriousness of its organic conversion, its precise understanding of Lot terroirs, and the consistent ageing potential of its reds. A benchmark address in the Sud-Ouest.
