WINE | RED WINE | RHÔNE | SAINT-JOSEPH ROUGE
Bottle of : 1.50L

Old-vine Syrah from the northern Rhône, nine generations deep

  • This wine embodies nine generations of family winemaking at Domaine du Monteillet. Stéphane Montez has crafted a Saint-Joseph that reflects both the terroir of the appellation and the accumulated knowledge of his ancestors, resulting in a wine of considerable depth and authenticity.
  • The structure and elegance of this Cuvée du Papy make it an ideal companion to game dishes and rich meat preparations. It pairs particularly well with traditional French cuisine such as braised game or lamb ragout, where its tannins and spice notes complement the depth of flavour.
  • A wine of genuine cellaring potential. The balanced tannin structure and complexity suggest that this vintage will develop further over the coming years, rewarding those who choose to lay it down in a cool cellar.

Product features : Stephane Montez - Saint-Joseph Cuvée du Papy 2022

In the mouth
Elegant and persistent on the palate, with a solid tannin structure that has achieved good integration. The wine shows good balance between fruit expression and the mineral character of the appellation, with a satisfying finish.
On the nose
Intense and layered bouquet: ripe cassis and red fruits lead to violet notes, followed by subtle spice—nutmeg and white pepper—with undertones of liquorice and vanilla that add complexity and length.
On the eye
Deep ruby, with the intensity characteristic of mature Syrah from old vines
Breeding
Twenty months in new demi-muids (33 per cent), first and second fill French oak, without racking.
M. Francois
A versatile food wine that performs admirably with red meat dishes and game. The refined tannin profile and aromatic complexity make it equally suited to lamb preparations, particularly those with traditional French seasoning. This is a wine that demonstrates the quality achievable in Saint-Joseph when old vines and skilled winemaking combine.
