Initially subtle, the bouquet unfolds to reveal ripe stone fruits—peach and mirabelle—interwoven with delicate rose petal notes and a whisper of brioche.
In the mouth
A zesty entry gives way to brioche, pastry and toasted cereal notes, complemented by liquorice and dried fruit. Silken texture carries a lively acidity through to a clean, persistent finish.
The 2015 vintage offers a particularly felicitous balance for those seeking a Champagne of substance without heaviness. I find it an ideal companion to desserts—particularly fruit-based preparations—or simply as an aperitif when one wishes for something more considered than an everyday brut. Founded in Épernay in 1849, the Pol Roger House farms 92 hectares across the three great Champagne terroirs — Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne — on chalk subsoils reaching 33 metres deep. One of the last major Champagne Houses to remain genuinely family-owned and independent, Pol Roger has built its reputation on precision, tension, and an exceptionally fine mousse, working its vineyards to HVE and Terra Vitis standards.
