The benchmark for fine Rhône appellations

  • This wine represents a considered blend of Syrah and Grenache, two varieties that define the character of the southern Rhône. The balance between them yields a wine of substance and restraint, neither overwhelming nor timid.
  • Domaine Guigal's Côtes du Rhône demonstrates why this house remains a touchstone for the region. The wine carries the hallmarks of serious winemaking: structure, persistence, and a sense of place.
  • A wine of genuine elegance, with sufficient body to accompany hearty fare yet refined enough to merit attention on its own. The tannins are present but rounded, suggesting a wine that will age gracefully.

In the mouth
The palate is full and well-structured, with ripe tannins that provide grip without harshness. The wine shows good length and a pleasing dry finish. This is a wine of substance, built to accompany food rather than merely please.
On the nose
The bouquet unfolds with dark berry fruits—blackcurrant and plum—complemented by discreet spice notes. There is an understated complexity that rewards attention without demanding it.
On the eye
Deep ruby-red with a lustrous sheen. The colour speaks to ripe fruit and careful extraction.
Breeding
Aged eighteen months in large oak vats.
M. Francois
This Côtes du Rhône pairs admirably with charcuterie, roasted red meats, and game. The wine's structure and acidity make it a natural companion to dishes with some richness or complexity. Equally, it will serve well at table with everyday fare—it is unpretentious without being simple.
