Breeding
In barrels with approximately one-third new oak
On the eye
Ruby robe with good depth and clarity
On the nose
The bouquet is expressive and inviting, offering a refined palette of dark fruits with a distinctive freshness. The aromatics suggest blackcurrant and subtle mineral notes characteristic of the Left Bank.
In the mouth
The palate displays good substance and organisation, built upon ripe, well-structured tannins that remain graceful rather than aggressive. The finish is persistent and fruit-driven, with a satisfying length that speaks to the wine's quality and potential.
M. Francois
Chateau Capbern 2023 presents a harmonious balance between fruit, structure and terroir expression. The wine demonstrates the hallmarks of fine Saint-Estèphe: elegance without heaviness, complexity without pretension. This is classic Left Bank Bordeaux made with integrity and restraint—a wine that will reward those with the patience to cellar it properly.

CHATEAU CAPBERN

Château Capbern covers 38 hectares in Saint-Estèphe (Gironde), where gravelly sandy, gravelly clay and limestone soils give the wines their characteristic structure and mineral backbone. Founded in 1894 and historically tied to Calon Ségur for over 120 years, the château passed to Suravenir, a subsidiary of Crédit Mutuel, in 2012, marking a fresh chapter from the 2013 vintage onwards. The blend draws on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc — a classically left-bank Bordeaux line-up. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency it delivers across vintages and for the way it captures the tannic, mineral character that defines Saint-Estèphe. A dependable Bordeaux address at a price that remains accessible for the appellation.
