Pure expression of Côtes de Bourg terroir

  • Château Roc de Cambes sits on the finest slopes of Côtes de Bourg, overlooking the Gironde. The argilo-calcareous terroir mirrors that of Bordeaux's greatest growths, lending the wine considerable complexity and aromatic depth—a serious alternative to the Left Bank.
  • Predominantly Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon in support, this wine is rich and generous yet refined. Dark fruits, preserved cherry and cocoa characterise the nose; the Cabernet provides structure and spice, achieving an admirable balance between power and elegance.
  • Roc de Cambes rewards cellaring. Approachable young for its fruit-forward character and silky texture, it develops considerably with age, revealing secondary notes of forest floor, leather and truffle—the hallmark of serious Bordeaux.

In the mouth
Ample and silky on the palate, with fine, elegant tannins. Ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and preserved cherry meld with tobacco, dark chocolate and subtle spice. The finish is long and persistent, with excellent balance and freshness.
On the nose
Rich and layered: dark plum, blackcurrant and truffle lead, followed by liquorice, tobacco leaf and cedarwood—the signature of age-worthy Bordeaux.
On the eye
Deep garnet robe with purple reflections
Breeding
Aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 18 to 20 months, imparting subtle notes of vanilla, toasted oak and fine aromatic complexity
M. Francois
Château Roc de Cambes represents the best of what Côtes de Bourg can offer: richness, elegance and real depth. Its silky structure, refined tannins and complex fruit-and-spice profile rival many Left Bank growths at considerably better value. This is serious cellar material—ideal with roasted red meat, game or mature cheese—and will reward patient collectors with years of evolving complexity. A wine I return to regularly.
