Founded in 1838 in Aÿ, at the heart of the Champagne region, Champagne Deutz stands among the most respected names in the appellation. Backed since 1993 by the Louis Roederer group, the House combines a rich historical heritage with rigorous contemporary standards across 42 hectares of carefully tended vines.
In 1838, two Prussian merchants — William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann — laid the foundations of the House in Aÿ, a commune in the Marne classified entirely as grand cru. From the outset, the location was no accident: Aÿ sits at the crossroads of the finest Champagne terroirs, its south-facing slopes yielding Pinot Noir of exceptional structure and depth. The House remained within the Lallier family for five successive generations, preserving a culture of craft and continuity that is rare in a region increasingly shaped by large-scale consolidation. In 1993, Champagne Deutz joined the Louis Roederer group — itself a family-owned house under the Rouzaud family — an alliance that brought financial solidity without compromising the House's editorial independence. Since 2023, Marc Hoellinger has served as Chief Executive, steering the House through a period of renewed ambition.
The 42 hectares farmed by Champagne Deutz span three of Champagne's most distinguished growing zones: the grand cru hillsides of Aÿ itself, with their full southerly exposure; the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Noir reaches its most mineral expression; and the Côte des Blancs, the spiritual home of Chardonnay in the region. Beneath all three zones lies the same foundation: craie champenoise, the deep chalk subsoil that gives Champagne its singular freshness, its fine persistent mousse, and its capacity to age.
