DOMAINE ALPHONE MELLOT
Established on the south-western slopes of Sancerre in the Cher, Domaine Alphonse Mellot farms 50 hectares of Kimmeridgian limestone, marl, and clay-limestone soils under certified organic and biodynamic principles. The Mellot family has been recorded in Sancerre since 1513 — nineteen consecutive generations on the same appellation, including César Mellot, viticultural adviser to Louis XIV in 1698 — a continuity almost without parallel in the Loire Valley. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its biodynamic approach, adopted as early as 1999 on La Moussière, and for the precision with which Alphonse Mellot Junior and Emmanuelle Mellot interpret Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. A benchmark address for the serious Loire enthusiast.
