A Madiran of genuine character and depth

  • A full-bodied red wine of considerable character. The Cuvée des Vieux Ceps represents the traditional strength of Madiran, built on old vines and structured tannins that demand respect.
  • An ideal companion for robust, flavourful dishes: cassoulet, duck confit, game, Pyrenean sheep's cheese, and Auvergne blue. Its structure and power complement assertive cuisine.
  • This wine offers immediate pleasure on release, yet rewards patience. It develops gracefully over several years in a cool cellar, revealing greater complexity and refinement as it matures.

Product features : Château Barréjat Madiran Cuvée des Vieux Ceps 2021

Breeding
12 months in oak barrels, partly new wood.
On the eye
Deep, dark garnet. A wine of serious colour and weight.
On the nose
Red fruits—cherry and plum—supported by pronounced sous-bois notes. Vanilla and toasted oak provide structure and warmth without dominating the fruit.
In the mouth
Powerful and muscular on the palate, with substantial flesh and backbone. The tannins are firm and well-integrated. A woody note persists on the finish, speaking to careful élevage in oak.
M. Francois
The Cuvée des Vieux Ceps is the natural partner for cassoulet, duck confit, and game of all kinds. It stands equally well with Pyrenean sheep's cheese and Auvergne blue. This is a wine built for the table, not for admiration alone.

CHÂTEAU BARRÉJAT

Based in Maumusson-Laguian in the Gers, Château Barréjat farms 40 hectares of Madiran across sandy silts laced with dark gravel, with yields capped at 55 hl/ha. The estate has bottled its own wines since 1967, passing through four generations of the same family; Denis Capmartin took the helm in 1992 and made a decisive investment in 2008 with the construction of an underground cellar, ensuring precise temperature control and consistency throughout élevage. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the discipline of its yields, the typicity of its Tannat, and a range that spans red, white, rosé and sparkling. A reliable address for anyone seeking Madiran in its fullest expression.
