An authentic expression of Madiran terroir

  • Château Barréjat represents a tradition of winemaking in Madiran that stretches back generations. This is a wine rooted in its place, reflecting the distinctive character of the south-west French region and the commitment of its producers to honest, uncompromising viticulture.
  • This is a wine of genuine substance and personality—structured, aromatic, and built to age gracefully. It rewards those who appreciate depth over fashion, and who seek wines with backbone and purpose rather than fleeting charm.
  • Madiran offers remarkable value for serious red wine drinkers. Château Barréjat delivers complexity and ageing potential at a level that would command considerably more in better-known appellations. A wine of genuine merit, fairly priced.

In the mouth
The palate is harmonious and well-balanced, with substantial but refined tannins wrapped in ripe fruit and natural richness. The wine is aromatic and persistent, with a long, satisfying finish that speaks to careful élevage and fruit quality.
On the nose
A refined bouquet, expressive and layered. Preserved dark fruits—blackberry and blackcurrant—mingle with forest floor, humus, and subtle spice. The aromatics develop with air, revealing further complexity.
On the eye
Deep garnet with vermillion highlights; a wine of evident maturity and presence in the glass.
Breeding
Ageing in cement vat, stainless steel, fibreglass and old oak foudres combined with Tannat and Cabernet make this an approachable Madiran at a reasonable price.
M. Francois
Château Barréjat is an ideal companion to cassoulet, duck confit, and magret de canard. It pairs beautifully with game birds and venison, and complements Pyrenean sheep's cheese and Auvergne blue with particular grace. A wine for the table, not for show.

CHÂTEAU BARRÉJAT

Based in Maumusson-Laguian in the Gers, Château Barréjat farms 40 hectares of Madiran across sandy silts laced with dark gravel, with yields capped at 55 hl/ha. The estate has bottled its own wines since 1967, passing through four generations of the same family; Denis Capmartin took the helm in 1992 and made a decisive investment in 2008 with the construction of an underground cellar, ensuring precise temperature control and consistency throughout élevage. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the discipline of its yields, the typicity of its Tannat, and a range that spans red, white, rosé and sparkling. A reliable address for anyone seeking Madiran in its fullest expression.
