The Perrins' benchmark Gigondas from distinctive sandy terroir

  • La Gille emerges from sandy soils—a geological rarity in Gigondas. This distinctive terroir imparts a mineral precision and textural elegance rarely encountered in the appellation, distinguishing it from the heavier, clay-based expressions of neighbouring parcels.
  • Despite Gigondas's reputation for richness, this wine maintains remarkable freshness. The 2021 vintage shows bright acidity on the finish, a hallmark of the Perrin family's restrained approach to extraction and élevage, making it more versatile than many peers.
  • A genuinely food-friendly Gigondas. The silken attack and balanced structure suit everything from charcuterie and light terrines through to braised meats and aged cheeses. Equally at home as an aperitif wine or at table.

Product features : Famille Perrin Gigondas la Gille 2021

In the mouth
Soft, silken attack followed by well-defined mid-palate. The tannins are fine-grained rather than aggressive. Bright acidity carries through to a clean, refreshing finish that belies the wine's 14.5% alcohol.
On the nose
Pronounced red fruit aromatics—strawberry and raspberry—layered with subtle toasted notes. The bouquet is open and inviting, without the heaviness sometimes found in blockier Gigondas expressions.
On the eye
Deep ruby-red with garnet undertones. Clear, bright appearance reflecting the wine's mineral character.
M. Francois
A bottle of la Gille alongside a proper veal braise—coq au vin, perhaps, or blanquette de veau—and you have the makings of a genuinely satisfying evening. This is the Perrin family at their most thoughtful: power tempered by restraint, tradition informed by modern sensibility. A wine for those who understand that the finest Gigondas need not shout.
