The power and authenticity of great Rhône Syrah

  • Produced on the steep granite slopes characteristic of Cornas, this Syrah expresses the appellation's defining intensity and minerality. The wine demonstrates the structured power for which Northern Rhône Cornas is justly renowned.
  • Complex aromas of blackcurrant, plum, violet and liquorice combine with smoky, leathery notes to create a wine of considerable depth and character. The Syrah's inherent elegance shines through its muscular frame.
  • Firmly structured with refined tannins, this Cornas possesses genuine cellaring potential. Over years in bottle, the tannins soften to reveal a silken texture and secondary notes of forest floor and leather.

Product features : Domaine Louis Cheze Cornas 2021

Breeding
Aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months, with approximately 30% new wood, to impart subtle aromas of vanilla, toasted oak and cedar whilst respecting the fruit expression.
On the eye
Deep purple robe with garnet highlights
On the nose
Intense and layered bouquet: blackcurrant and plum, violet, liquorice, leather and a distinctive smoky character
In the mouth
Powerful and densely structured, with firm yet elegant tannins. Ripe dark fruits—blackberry and cassis—meld with black pepper, liquorice, smoke and leather. The finish is long, underpinned by mineral freshness that balances the wine's considerable weight.
M. Francois
This Cornas authentically captures the Northern Rhône's character: powerful, structured, with genuine aromatic complexity and cellaring credentials. The firm tannins and mineral backbone suit robust dishes—game, braised meats, grilled preparations. Ideal for those who appreciate full-bodied Syrah with both intensity and refinement, wines designed to develop gracefully over the years.

DOMAINE LOUIS CHEZE

On the granite hillsides of Limony in Ardèche, Domaine Louis Cheze works 35 hectares within the Saint-Joseph appellation, on the right bank of the Rhône. Louis Chèze took over the property in 1978 with a single hectare, building the estate steadily around Syrah for the reds and Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier for the whites, with yields held between 25 and 40 hl/ha depending on the cuvée. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the consistency of its wines, the frank mineral expression of Limony's granite, and the commitment of three generations — Louis, Camille and Benoît Chèze — to one of the northern Rhône's most demanding terroirs. A dependable reference from the Vallée du Rhône.
