Breeding
Aged in oak barrels, this wine has acquired complexity and finesse whilst retaining excellent ageing potential. The élevage imparts woody and spicy notes that integrate perfectly with the wine's fruity aromas.
On the eye
Deep ruby to garnet, with an intensity that suggests maturity and concentration.
On the nose
Blackcurrant and dark berry fruit dominate, with secondary notes of roasted oak, vanilla and subtle toasted grain. The aromatics develop gradually, revealing layers of complexity.
In the mouth
A wine of substance and structure. Ripe dark fruits are framed by firm tannins and gentle oak influence. Soft spice notes and a lingering finish of dried fruit and cedar provide balance and length.
Château Pontey pairs excellently with roasted red meats and lamb. The wine's structure complements game dishes and mature hard cheeses, particularly alpine varieties. Best served at 16-17°C, decanted thirty minutes before service to allow full expression of its character.
