The second wine of a classified Margaux estate

  • Cantenac Brown holds the distinction of Third Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. This second wine captures the house style with genuine pedigree, offering the refined character of Margaux at a more accessible point in the vintage's evolution.
  • Brio de Cantenac Brown presents itself as a charming, delicate expression of the vintage. The wine balances structure with approachability, displaying the elegance characteristic of the appellation without demanding extended cellaring.
  • This wine drinks with considerable pleasure in its youth, revealing its fruit-forward character and silky texture. However, it will develop further complexity over the next five to eight years, rewarding those who choose to lay down a few bottles.

In the mouth
The palate opens with a velvety attack, the tannins supple and well-integrated. The mid-palate reveals layers of ripe fruit, whilst the finish carries notes of preserved fruit, liquorice and white pepper—persistent and harmonious.
On the nose
Fragrant red and dark berry fruits lead, with an elegant floral undertone. The bouquet is refined and inviting, speaking clearly of Margaux's terroir.
On the eye
Deep ruby, showing good colour intensity and clarity.
Breeding
In oak barrels of which 25% new and 75% one year old
M. Francois
This wine pairs beautifully with veal dishes, particularly those with rich sauces such as Veal Marengo. It would equally suit roasted poultry, light game, or aged cheeses. Serve at 16–17°C, decanting thirty minutes before service to allow the wine to open.

CHATEAU CANTENAC BROWN

A Third Grand Cru Classé of the Margaux appellation, Château Cantenac Brown extends across 60 hectares of deep gravel soils on the Cantenac plateau in the Gironde. Founded in 1806 by the Scotsman John Lewis Brown — who commissioned a striking neo-Tudor château quite unlike anything else in the Médoc — the estate was acquired in December 2019 by the Le Lous family (Urgo group) for approximately €150 million, bringing fresh ambition and a new rammed-earth winery inaugurated in 2023. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the precision of its blend — Cabernet Sauvignon-led, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot — and for the long-term vision being applied to one of Bordeaux's most celebrated terroirs. A Médoc classic, renewed with purpose.
