A distinguished voice from the southern Rhône valley

  • This is a wine of considerable richness and harmony. The structure is well-defined, with layers of fruit and spice that reward careful attention. It represents the serious winemaking for which Pierre Gaillard is recognised.
  • The wine's balance and moderate alcohol make it remarkably versatile at table. It will serve equally well with roasted poultry, grilled beef, or Mediterranean dishes. Its character complements both rustic and refined cuisine.
  • Transhumance may be enjoyed in its youth, when the fruit is most prominent, or cellared for several years as the tannins integrate and secondary flavours develop. This is a wine built for modest ageing.

In the mouth
Powerful and concentrated, yet balanced. The palate shows good structure with ripe tannins and a persistent finish. The wine is neither heavy nor thin—a measured expression of its terroir.
On the nose
The bouquet opens with dark berries and liquorice, evolving towards white pepper and subtle herbal notes. The aromatics develop gradually, suggesting complexity beneath the surface.
On the eye
A fine ruby colour with good depth and clarity
M. Francois
Transhumance pairs naturally with roasted chicken, grilled côte de boeuf, and lamb tagine. It is equally at home with baked sea bream. Among cheeses, it complements both soft varieties such as Camembert and aged alpine cheeses. A wine of genuine versatility for the table.

DOMAINE PIERRE GAILLARD

Domaine Pierre Gaillard is a wine estate in Malleval (Loire), Northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1986 by Pierre Gaillard (co-founder of Les Vins de Vienne). Around 25 hectares on steep granitic hillsides. Grapes: Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne. Appellations: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph. Also producing in Faugères (Languedoc).

FAUGERES ROUGE

In the coeur of the Languedoc, halfway between Béziers and the Montagne Noire, the Faugères AOC owes its identity to a soil that is rare on French ground: layered schist. In red, the appellation blends syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, carignan and cinsault on hillsides swept by sea breezes, delivering minerally, mouthwatering wines built to age. At Halles de Quercamps, we've selected three complementary signatures — Abbaye Sylva Plana (biodynamic), Domaine Cottebrune (Pierre Gaillard) and La Tour Penedesses on its volcanic slopes — to give a sharp, no-frills reading of the appellation.
