A compelling expression of Beaujolais Gamay from the Cote du Py

  • This is a wine of considerable charm and immediacy. The Gamay expresses itself with genuine generosity, offering layers of red fruit that reward both casual enjoyment and attentive tasting.
  • The wine possesses a natural vivacity and tension that speaks to the terroir of Morgon's volcanic soils. Its energy on the palate suggests wines of substance and character, rather than mere frivolity.
  • Sourced directly from the domaine, this wine reaches you without the customary merchant markups. Les Halles de Quercamps' direct relationship with the producer ensures fair value for the discerning collector.

Breeding
Twelve months' élevage, principally in cement vats with a small proportion in older barrels
On the eye
Deep ruby with violet reflections, suggesting youth and vibrancy
On the nose
The bouquet opens with red fruit—cherry and raspberry predominate—with subtle floral notes that emerge as the wine breathes. There is an appealing freshness throughout.
In the mouth
The wine enters with immediate vivacity and tension. The acidity is well-integrated, providing structure without harshness. The mid-palate reveals the wine's depth, with a finish that is clean and persistent.
M. Francois
This Morgon pairs admirably with charcuterie, particularly artisanal cured meats such as the Rosette de Lyon. Its natural acidity and fruit-forward character complement pâtés and terrines. The wine is equally suited to lighter poultry dishes and aged cheeses of moderate intensity.

DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BURGAUD

Based in Villié-Morgon, Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud farms 19 hectares across the celebrated slopes of the Côte du Py, at the heart of the Morgon appellation. Founded in 1989, the estate gained its true character in 1992 when Jean-Marc — trained in Burgundy and steeped in a vigneron family — took over his father-in-law's vines on these iron- and manganese-rich schists. That Burgundian formation shows: he reads his parcels with the rigour of a climat, coaxing both power and finesse from Gamay Noir on some of Beaujolais's most distinctive terroir. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the precision of its vineyard work, the typicity of its Morgon, and a consistency of style that places it firmly among the serious addresses of the appellation. A benchmark for the cellar.
