1er Grand Cru Classé since 1959

  • The wine's backbone rests upon the richness and structure of Merlot, which lends considerable depth and a velvety texture to the palate. This is a wine of substance and presence.
  • Cabernet Franc contributes brightness and a subtle spiced character, adding complexity and freshness that prevents the wine from becoming heavy. The interplay between the two varieties is carefully balanced.
  • This vintage demonstrates genuine cellaring potential. The wine's architecture—firm tannins, good acidity, and concentrated fruit—suggests it will develop further complexity over the coming years, rewarding patience.

Breeding
50% new oak
On the eye
Deep garnet, with good colour intensity.
On the nose
The bouquet is intense and layered, revealing ripe red fruits—cherry and plum—alongside subtle spiced notes and a whisper of oak. The aromatics evolve as the wine opens.
In the mouth
Aromatic and well-structured, with silky tannins that coat the mouth pleasantly. The wine shows good balance between fruit expression and tannin presence, with a persistent finish.
M. Francois
This wine pairs beautifully with game birds and rich preparations. Consider it alongside a braised partridge with lentils, where the wine's structure and spiced notes will complement the earthiness of the dish. The wine's freshness will cut through the richness of the sauce.

CHATEAU LA GAFFELIERE

Set on the south-facing slopes of Saint-Émilion (Gironde), Château la Gaffelière farms 22 hectares across limestone plateau, clay-limestone and siliceous soils, producing Saint-Émilion Grand Cru rouge. In the hands of the de Malet Roquefort family since 1705, this is one of the Libournais's most enduring estates: over three centuries of unbroken family ownership, a Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend shaped by diverse soils, and disciplined yields held to 40 hl/ha under HVE certification. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for its terroir integrity, consistent winemaking and the frank, characterful expression it brings to the Saint-Émilion appellation.
