A pure expression of Gamay from the heart of Morgon

  • This wine captures the essence of Beaujolais terroir with a gourmand character that rewards careful attention. The Gamay fruit speaks clearly, without artifice or over-extraction, offering genuine pleasure to those who appreciate traditional winemaking.
  • Sourced from a carefully selected parcel positioned just below the celebrated Côte du Py, this wine benefits from the distinctive granite soils and microclimate that define Morgon's finest expressions. The site selection reflects Burgaud's deep knowledge of his vineyard.
  • Les Halles de Quercamps offers direct access to this domaine wine, allowing us to present it at a fair merchant's price. Our long-standing relationship with quality producers enables us to bring authentic Beaujolais to British enthusiasts without unnecessary markup.

Product features : Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres 2021

Breeding
Twelve months' élevage in used oak barrels (no new wood to avoid masking the terroir).
On the eye
A deep purple robe, notably dark for Gamay, suggesting concentration and maturity potential.
On the nose
Black cherry (Burlat), blackberry and blueberry dominate, with subtle mineral undertones reflecting the granite terroir beneath the vineyard.
In the mouth
A long, fruit-driven palate centred on dark berry notes, with a noble bitter finish reminiscent of cherry stone. The structure is elegant rather than heavy, with good acidity providing balance and ageing potential.
M. Francois
This wine finds its natural home alongside artisanal charcuterie—particularly Lyon's rosette and similar cured meats where the wine's acidity and fruit cut through richness. It also suits game terrines, soft cheeses, and simple roasted poultry. Serve slightly cool, around 13–14°C, to appreciate its freshness.

DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BURGAUD

Based in Villié-Morgon, Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud farms 19 hectares across the celebrated slopes of the Côte du Py, at the heart of the Morgon appellation. Founded in 1989, the estate gained its true character in 1992 when Jean-Marc — trained in Burgundy and steeped in a vigneron family — took over his father-in-law's vines on these iron- and manganese-rich schists. That Burgundian formation shows: he reads his parcels with the rigour of a climat, coaxing both power and finesse from Gamay Noir on some of Beaujolais's most distinctive terroir. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the precision of its vineyard work, the typicity of its Morgon, and a consistency of style that places it firmly among the serious addresses of the appellation. A benchmark for the cellar.
