A Beaujolais of genuine substance and character

  • This is a wine of considerable depth and texture. The 2021 vintage reveals the inherent richness of mature Gamay fruit, offering a drinking experience that extends well beyond the typical Beaujolais profile.
  • Sourced from a carefully selected parcel situated below the Côte du Py itself, this wine benefits from the distinctive terroir of the Javernières climat, where the granite-based soils impart mineral precision to the ripe fruit.
  • Purchased directly from the domaine, this wine is offered at the proprietor's price through our established relationship with the grower, ensuring excellent value for the quality presented.

Product features : Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres 2021

Breeding
Twelve months' élevage in used oak barrels (no new wood to avoid masking the terroir).
On the eye
Deep ruby with garnet undertones; a wine of evident concentration and maturity
On the nose
Black cherry and dark berry preserve dominate, with secondary notes of ripe plum and a subtle earthiness that speaks to the wine's granite terroir
In the mouth
Broad and velvety on the palate, with the structure and weight that reflects genuinely ripe fruit. The tannins are soft yet present, providing a satisfying finish that lingers without harshness
M. Francois
A wine of genuine substance that rewards pairing with charcuterie and cured meats—particularly those of Lyonnaise tradition. The wine's weight and texture also suit roasted poultry and lighter game preparations. Best enjoyed at cellar temperature, slightly cooled.

DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BURGAUD

Based in Villié-Morgon, Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud farms 19 hectares across the celebrated slopes of the Côte du Py, at the heart of the Morgon appellation. Founded in 1989, the estate gained its true character in 1992 when Jean-Marc — trained in Burgundy and steeped in a vigneron family — took over his father-in-law's vines on these iron- and manganese-rich schists. That Burgundian formation shows: he reads his parcels with the rigour of a climat, coaxing both power and finesse from Gamay Noir on some of Beaujolais's most distinctive terroir. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the precision of its vineyard work, the typicity of its Morgon, and a consistency of style that places it firmly among the serious addresses of the appellation. A benchmark for the cellar.
