100% TANNAT -

Pure Tannat expression from Madiran

  • A wine of genuine character, built on the structure and depth that Tannat alone can deliver. This is uncompromising winemaking from the south-west, crafted for those who appreciate substance over fashion.
  • An ideal companion to robust, flavourful dishes: cassoulet, duck confit, magret, game, and the region's own Pyrénean sheep's cheese and Auvergne blue. It demands food of equal stature.
  • Approachable now for immediate pleasure, yet sufficiently well-made to reward patience. A wine that will settle gracefully in the cellar, developing further complexity over five to ten years.

Product features : Château Barréjat Madiran Cuvée de l'Extrême 2021

In the mouth
Powerful and well-structured, with pronounced tannins that frame rather than overwhelm. Roasted, torrefied notes persist into the finish, supported by good acidity and a long, dry conclusion.
On the nose
Toasted vanilla and buttered notes emerge first, layered with darker aromas of roasted coffee and graphite. The nose speaks of careful élevage and ripe fruit concentration.
On the eye
Deep, dark garnet. Concentrated colour suggesting power and maturity potential.
Breeding
Aged in cement vat, stainless steel, fibreglass and old oak foudres.
M. Francois
Château Barréjat's Cuvée de l'Extrême is an accomplished expression of Madiran's potential. The wine pairs beautifully with cassoulet, duck confit, magret, game birds, Pyrénean sheep's cheese, and Auvergne blue. Its structure and depth make it a natural choice for the serious table, and a wine worth revisiting after a few years of bottle age.

CHÂTEAU BARRÉJAT

Based in Maumusson-Laguian in the Gers, Château Barréjat farms 40 hectares of Madiran across sandy silts laced with dark gravel, with yields capped at 55 hl/ha. The estate has bottled its own wines since 1967, passing through four generations of the same family; Denis Capmartin took the helm in 1992 and made a decisive investment in 2008 with the construction of an underground cellar, ensuring precise temperature control and consistency throughout élevage. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the discipline of its yields, the typicity of its Tannat, and a range that spans red, white, rosé and sparkling. A reliable address for anyone seeking Madiran in its fullest expression.
