Mature vines, structured elegance

  • This wine demonstrates admirable balance between power and refinement. The mature vines—over forty years old—contribute depth and complexity to a palate that is both structured and approachable, offering immediate pleasure whilst possessing the constitution for further development.
  • A wine of considerable ageing potential, yet one that rewards the patient drinker now. The 2020 vintage has sufficient concentration and tannin structure to evolve gracefully in bottle, whilst already displaying the harmonious character that defines this cuvée.
  • Generosity and balance define this Graves. The wine unfolds with a pleasing aromatic persistence, its savoury character sustained through to a lingering finish. The interplay of structure and elegance makes this a wine of genuine substance.

Product features : Chateau de Respide - Graves Rouge Cuvée Callipyge 2020

In the mouth
The palate is powerful and complex, with well-integrated tannins providing structure without harshness. Flavours of dark fruit, spice and subtle oak weave together, creating a wine of considerable presence and length on the finish.
On the nose
The bouquet is notably spiced, with prominent grilled and toasted notes that speak to careful élevage. Secondary aromas of leather and dark earth emerge as the wine opens, adding complexity and depth to the initial impression.
On the eye
Deep garnet robe with excellent colour saturation
Breeding
Aged 12 months in oak barrels (50% new) and 6 months in stainless steel tanks.
M. Francois
This Graves pairs admirably with roasted poultry and grilled meats, where its spiced character complements charred flavours. Equally at home with sauced dishes and mature cheeses, the wine's structure and aromatic persistence make it a versatile companion to the table. A wine of genuine merit for the discerning collector.

CHÂTEAU DE RESPIDE

Set in Roaillan at the heart of the Graves, Château de Respide extends across 80 hectares of sandy-gravelly, clay, and limestone soils, producing red and white Bordeaux of real character. Founded in 1630, the château passed through several hands before Amélie and Pierre-Edouard Chatin took the reins in 2021, bringing fresh energy to a vineyard now farmed to HVE certification. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, nephew of a former owner, was a regular guest here — a detail that speaks to the singular history of this place. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its viticulture, the breadth of its encépagement, and the consistent balance it strikes between structure and freshness. A true Bordeaux of terroir, rooted in history and carried forward by a new generation.
