On the eye
Deep purple-black in youth, evolving to dark ruby with noble garnet highlights as it matures.
On the nose
A powerful, earthy bouquet dominated by dark fruits—cassis, wild blackberry and bilberry. The signature Gruaud aromatics emerge: liquorice, violet and a whisper of fresh leather.
In the mouth
Muscular and well-structured. Abundant, firm tannins of considerable nobility provide excellent grip and texture. A wine of substance with impressive mid-palate density and length.
Since its establishment in 1725, Gruaud Larose has passed through four family stewardships—Gruaud & Larose, Balguerie and Sarget, Cordier, and Merlaut—each adding to its legend. The estate's motto remains its truest description: Le Roi des Vins, le Vin des Rois.
