A family estate of distinction since 1871

  • The wine is anchored by Merlot, which provides the structure and depth characteristic of fine Pomerol. The variety's natural richness is tempered by careful vineyard management and measured élevage, resulting in a wine of considerable presence without excess.
  • Cabernet Franc contributes brightness and a subtle peppery character that lifts the mid-palate. This complementary variety adds textural refinement and ensures the wine develops gracefully over time, offering complexity beyond its youth.
  • The château holds HVE certification and employs both phytotherapy and biodynamic principles in the vineyard. These sustainable practices reflect a commitment to terroir expression and environmental stewardship, principles that have guided the family for generations.

Product features : Chateau la Conseillante - Pomerol 2021

Breeding
18 months in French oak barrels, 60-80% new wood
On the eye
Deep garnet, with the density and clarity that suggests careful selection and balanced ripeness.
On the nose
The bouquet is complex and layered, revealing red fruit—cherry and plum—alongside delicate floral notes and a whisper of white pepper. The aromatics develop gradually, suggesting good ageing potential.
In the mouth
The palate displays considerable aromatic intensity, with silky tannins that integrate seamlessly. The wine possesses both structure and elegance, with a finish that echoes the nose's floral and spiced character.
M. Francois
This is a wine that rewards patient decanting and benefits from a degree of air. It pairs exceptionally well with game birds—a braised partridge with lentils would be an ideal companion, allowing the wine's subtle spice and fruit to complement the richness of the dish without overwhelming it.

CHATEAU LA CONSEILLANTE

Situated on the eastern plateau of Pomerol, bordering Saint-Émilion, Château la Conseillante spans 12 hectares of clay-gravel soils over a characteristic iron-oxide subsoil. Founded in the 18th century by Catherine Conseillan, the château passed to Louis Nicolas in 1871 — who went on to co-found the Syndicat Viticole de Pomerol in 1900 and serve as its first president, a distinction that carries real weight in an appellation without an official classification. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the precision of its encépagement — 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc — and for the rigour of an approach certified both HVE and ISO 14001. An essential reference for anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of Pomerol.
