Three centuries of winemaking mastery in Saint-Julien

  • Classified as a 2nd Cru in 1855, Ducru-Beaucaillou represents the pinnacle of Saint-Julien's Left Bank tradition. The estate's gravelly terroir, shaped by the Gironde's ancient alluvial deposits of quartz pebbles, imparts mineral complexity and structure to every vintage.
  • The 2021 vintage demands patience. This is a wine of considerable ageing potential, its silken tannin framework and concentrated dark fruit suggesting a decade or more of graceful development ahead. Decanting now would be premature.
  • The gravels of the Left Bank—those distinctive quartz pebbles deposited by the primordial Gironde—define the mineral character and drainage that make this terroir exceptional. These stones are the foundation of Ducru-Beaucaillou's elegance.

Product features : Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou - 2nd Cru Classé 2021 — Saint-Julien

Breeding
100% aged in new French oak barrels of 225 litres for 18 months
On the eye
Deep, intense ruby with a lustrous core
On the nose
Delicate violet and fresh blackcurrant aromas open to richer notes of kirsch, blackberry coulis and blueberry, layered with cocoa bean, roasted coffee and subtle Asian spice—clove and cardamom—that linger gracefully.
In the mouth
Remarkable precision defines the palate: dense, concentrated fruit enveloped in a well-structured framework of silky tannins, underpinned by refreshing acidity. Perfumed flavours of pure intensity and striking persistence, with prominent cassis and gravelly minerality in the finish.
M. Francois
A wine of pure elegance, power and grace. Ducru-Beaucaillou 2021 exemplifies the marriage of Left Bank structure and refined complexity. The silken tannins and mineral precision suggest this vintage will develop beautifully over the coming years, rewarding those with patience and a proper cellar.
