Thirteen generations of expertise at the heart of Saint-Emilion

  • This is a classified Grand Cru from one of Bordeaux's most distinguished appellations. Balestard la Tonnelle represents the continuity of a family house whose roots run deep into the terroir of Saint-Emilion's Right Bank.
  • The wine displays a pronounced character: a supple entry, with cassis and raspberry notes that persist through the palate. This is a wine of definition and clarity, neither timid nor overwrought.
  • The 2021 vintage shows the structure and balance to develop gracefully over the coming years. This is a wine of substance, built to reward patience, yet approachable in its youth.

Product features : Chateau Balestard la Tonnelle - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé 2021

In the mouth
The attack is supple and welcoming, with the cassis and raspberry notes from the nose carrying through the mid-palate. The tannins are present but refined, providing structure without harshness. A wine of balance and poise.
On the nose
The bouquet is distinctly Merlot in character: cassis and ripe raspberry are prominent, with subtle secondary notes emerging as the wine opens. The aromatics are clean and well-defined.
On the eye
Deep purple, with the colour density typical of a serious Merlot-based wine.
M. Francois
This is a wine of considerable versatility at table. Serve it with white meats and poultry, where its elegance will shine; with red meats, where its structure will provide support; or with game, where the fruit will complement the deeper flavours. The wine's balance makes it equally at home in informal dining or more formal occasions. Decant if serving immediately; otherwise, allow an hour in the glass.
