The signature expression of Alain Brumont's mastery

  • This Madiran reveals itself through aromas of dark berries and warm spice, offering a wine of considerable depth and refinement that rewards patient cellaring.
  • Sourced from vines of thirty years' maturity, the wine displays the richness and structural integrity that distinguishes the finest examples of the appellation.
  • The Tannat varietal here achieves remarkable balance: powerful and well-defined, yet with fine-grained tannins that promise an elegant, lingering finish.

Product features : Chateau Montus - Madiran 2016

Breeding
Ageing on lees for 12 to 14 months in new oak barrels at 60/80%.
On the eye
Deep ruby robe with excellent colour intensity
On the nose
The bouquet is generous and perfumed, dominated by dark fruits—blackberry and blackcurrant—interwoven with subtle spice notes that evolve with aeration.
In the mouth
The palate is rich and powerfully structured, the Tannat's characteristic tannins present yet refined. The wine builds steadily toward a persistent, elegant conclusion that speaks of careful élevage and quality fruit.
M. Francois
An excellent companion to game—particularly duck—and spiced oriental cuisine. Equally suited to beef and lamb preparations. The wine's structure suggests drinking over the next fifteen to twenty years, though it is approachable now with decanting.

VIGNOBLES BRUMONT

Based in Maumusson-Laguian in the Gers, Vignobles Brumont spans 300 hectares across the Madiran appellation, on south-facing slopes of reddish rolled pebbles and deep clays. Since 1979, Alain Brumont has made Tannat his signature, establishing Château Bouscassé and Château Montus as the benchmark addresses of the Sud-Ouest — a standing confirmed by five stars from Bettane+Desseauve in 2023, the only estate in the region to hold that distinction. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its terroirs, the consistency of its élevage, and the remarkable ageing potential of its reds over a decade and beyond. A Sud-Ouest address we back without reservation.
