The second wine of one of Médoc's most venerable estates

  • The second wine of Château Léoville Las Cases, one of Saint-Julien's finest properties. This selection offers genuine complexity at a more approachable level than the grand vin, with careful élevage that respects the vintage's character.
  • A wine of considerable structure, built upon harmoniously integrated tannins that provide backbone without dominance. The balance between fruit and tannin speaks to thoughtful winemaking and proper maturation in oak.
  • Displays notable finesse and persistence on the palate. The wine unfolds gradually, revealing layers of flavour that extend well beyond the initial impression, a hallmark of serious Saint-Julien winemaking.

Product features : Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2020 — Saint-Julien

In the mouth
Supple and silken on entry, developing into a wine of considerable amplitude. The tannin structure is harmonious and well-resolved, providing support without astringency. The mid-palate shows good concentration, leading to a finish of genuine length and definition.
On the nose
Fruit-forward aromatics with creamy undertones. Black currant and plum are evident, with subtle oak influence that enhances rather than dominates the bouquet. The nose suggests both immediate appeal and cellaring potential.
On the eye
Deep, intense ruby colour with good clarity and depth characteristic of the vintage
Breeding
Aged approximately ten months in oak barrels (around 10% new).
M. Francois
This wine demonstrates the quality and breeding expected of a Léoville Las Cases second wine. It pairs admirably with duck preparations, roasted veal, and a well-chosen cheese course. The balance and structure suggest it will develop gracefully over the coming years, though it offers genuine pleasure in its youth.
