A Third Growth of refined elegance and depth

  • Boyd-Cantenac stands as one of Margaux's most characteristic expressions, embodying the appellation's signature finesse. This Third Growth delivers the subtle complexity and graceful structure that define the finest wines of the Left Bank.
  • The 2018 vintage reveals layers of refinement: finesse and elegance on the palate, supported by supple tannins and a lingering finish. The wine balances intensity with the restraint and subtlety that distinguish truly classical Bordeaux.
  • Boyd-Cantenac possesses a remarkable capacity for development in bottle. This wine will evolve gracefully over two to three decades, its structure and complexity deepening with patient cellaring.

In the mouth
Elegant and forthright on entry, with refined tannins that frame rather than dominate. The mid-palate shows good density, whilst the finish extends with poise and clarity. A wine of classical proportion.
On the nose
Profound and layered: dark fruits—cassis and blackcurrant—with subtle secondary notes emerging as the wine opens. The bouquet speaks of careful élevage and fine terroir.
On the eye
Violet-tinged ruby, clear and luminous
Breeding
15 months in oak barrels (over 80% new)
M. Francois
This wine pairs beautifully with lamb dishes of substance and spice—a traditional curry of lamb, for instance, where the wine's structure and freshness cut through richness whilst its fruit complements the aromatic complexity of the dish. Also excellent with game and well-hung meats.

CHATEAU BOYD-CANTENAC

Situated in Cantenac at the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château Boyd-Cantenac covers 17 hectares of lean, free-draining siliceous gravel soils, classified as a 3rd Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. Founded in 1754 by Jacques Boyd, an Irish merchant who settled in Bordeaux, the château has remained in the Guillemet family since 1932. On this distinctive gravelly terroir, the red wines blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot to deliver the finesse and structure for which Margaux is celebrated. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its vintages and the recognition it has earned from the Guide Hachette, which awarded it a triple Coup de Cœur between 2013 and 2015. A reliable reference for lovers of age-worthy Bordeaux.
