A benchmark domaine from the northern Rhône valley

  • This is a wine of considerable richness and harmony, displaying the characteristic depth and concentration that Pierre Gaillard brings to his craft. The structure remains elegant and well-balanced throughout.
  • Transhumance pairs readily with a broad spectrum of dishes. Roasted poultry, grilled beef, lamb tagine, and white fish such as sea bream all find natural partners in this wine. It complements both soft cheeses and mountain tommes with equal grace.
  • The wine rewards immediate enjoyment, yet possesses the constitution to develop further complexity over several years in the cellar. Either approach—youthful freshness or mature refinement—will prove satisfying.

In the mouth
Powerful and concentrated yet admirably balanced. The wine fills the palate with ripe fruit character whilst maintaining the structural integrity that distinguishes serious winemaking.
On the nose
Initial notes of dark berries and liquorice evolve gracefully towards peppery nuances. The aromatic profile shows good complexity and suggests careful élevage.
On the eye
A fine ruby hue with excellent clarity and depth

Transhumance demonstrates Pierre Gaillard's mastery of his terroir. The wine's versatility at table is noteworthy: it performs equally well with roasted chicken, grilled côte de bœuf, or lamb tagine. Soft cheeses and alpine tommes are equally rewarding partners. This is a wine that repays attention without demanding it.

DOMAINE PIERRE GAILLARD

Domaine Pierre Gaillard is a wine estate in Malleval (Loire), Northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1986 by Pierre Gaillard (co-founder of Les Vins de Vienne). Around 25 hectares on steep granitic hillsides. Grapes: Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne. Appellations: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph. Also producing in Faugères (Languedoc).

FAUGERES ROUGE

In the coeur of the Languedoc, halfway between Béziers and the Montagne Noire, the Faugères AOC owes its identity to a soil that is rare on French ground: layered schist. In red, the appellation blends syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, carignan and cinsault on hillsides swept by sea breezes, delivering minerally, mouthwatering wines built to age. At Halles de Quercamps, we've selected three complementary signatures — Abbaye Sylva Plana (biodynamic), Domaine Cottebrune (Pierre Gaillard) and La Tour Penedesses on its volcanic slopes — to give a sharp, no-frills reading of the appellation. A Languedoc apart, ready to be discovered
