In the mouth
Well-defined tannins provide excellent structure without aggression. The palate is balanced and persistent, with good length and a dry, mineral finish that speaks of terroir.
On the nose
Blackcurrant and morello cherry dominate, with secondary notes of cocoa and violet. The bouquet is layered and inviting, suggesting the complexity within.
On the eye
Deep purple, with the dense colour characteristic of serious Cahors Malbec.

I have long admired Château du Cèdre's commitment to organic viticulture in this demanding appellation. This Grand Cèdre cuvée is particularly well suited to rich, spiced meat dishes—think game with pepper, or a properly made coq au vin. It is not a wine for everyday drinking, but rather a considered choice for the table where the food and company merit its attention.

Situated at Vire-sur-Lot in the Lot valley, Château du Cèdre farms 27 hectares of certified organic vines across the calcareous scree slopes and ancient siliceous terraces of the Cahors appellation. Founded in 1973 by the Verhaeghe family, originally from Flanders, the estate reached a turning point in 1995 when a devastating hailstorm prompted Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe to rethink their viticulture entirely — a journey that culminated in full organic certification in 2012. Malbec here delivers the depth and density that define the finest Cahors.
