A commanding Second Cru Classé from the heart of Pauillac

  • Classified as a Second Cru in the 1855 Bordeaux hierarchy, Pichon Baron commands respect amongst the finest properties of the Left Bank. This standing reflects decades of consistent quality and the estate's commanding position within Pauillac.
  • The 2017 vintage demonstrates the house style: a wine of considerable power and elegance, layered with complexity. The structure is evident, yet the balance between fruit and oak speaks to careful élevage and measured extraction.
  • This is a wine built for the cellar. The firm tannin framework and concentration suggest two decades of development ahead, during which secondary flavours will emerge and the wine will achieve greater harmony and refinement.

Product features : Chateau Pichon Baron - 2nd Cru Classé 2017 — Pauillac

In the mouth
Profound and structured, with well-integrated tannins that grip without harshness. The finish extends with authority, leaving mineral and dark fruit notes that linger. This is a wine of substance and breeding.
On the nose
Cassis and dark cherry predominate, underpinned by graphite minerality. Liquorice and subtle spice emerge from the oak élevage, adding textural complexity without dominating the fruit expression.
On the eye
Deep garnet, with the density characteristic of serious Pauillac fruit
Breeding
In oak barrels, of which 70% new, for approximately 19 months
M. Francois
A wine of considerable merit with roasted lamb, particularly where the meat carries caramelised edges and a rich jus. The wine's structure complements the umami depth of properly cooked lamb, whilst its acidity refreshes the palate between courses. Decant one hour before service to allow the wine to breathe and soften its youthful tannins.
