L'appellation "Vins de France" n'est pas géographiquement spécifique comme les autres AOC ou IGP, mais désigne des vins qui peuvent être produits à partir de raisins provenant de n'importe quelle région viticole de France. Lorsqu'on évoque un "Vin de France Vallée du Rhône Rouge", cela suggère un vin rouge élaboré avec des raisins de la Vallée du Rhône, mais sans respecter les contraintes spécifiques d'une AOC ou IGP de cette région. Ces vins peuvent présenter les caractéristiques typiques des rouges rhodaniens – notes de fruits noirs, d'épices et d'olives – mais avec une plus grande liberté en matière d'assemblage et de production.
